Juliane’s SeptaYome in Oregon

Every so often a photo lands in our inbox that makes the whole shop stop and gather around the screen. This one came from Juliane in Oregon, who wrote to ask about replacement window clips and, almost as an afterthought, mentioned she’d upgraded her Yome. Her exact words were “I LOOVVEEE it!” We can see why.

Juliane's Yome

Juliane has done what we always hope people will do with a Yome: she made it hers. The entry is a full pre-hung door, with the canvas pulled back and tied like curtains on either side. Framing all of it is a big round arbor made of branches and twigs, which turns a simple doorway into something like a moon gate. Below that are wooden steps lined with mums, fuchsias and herbs in pots, and out front is a patio of reclaimed brick laid in a patchwork pattern that looks like it has been there for a hundred years. A big evergreen hangs over the whole scene.

It is a good reminder that a Yome is a starting point. We build the frame, the cover and the windows. What happens after that, the plants, the paths, the furniture, the little bird feeder hanging off the arbor, is where it becomes a home.

Juliane also sent along a walk-through video, so you can see how she’s furnished and decorated the inside.

And for the record, her question about window clips is a common one. The clips that hold up the window canvas are small parts that get handled a lot, and they do wear out over the years. We keep them on hand, in both the male and female sides, along with other replacement parts for keeping your Yome in good shape.

Thank you, Juliane, for letting us share your place. She tells us she has more photos from her Yome journey, so we may be back with another installment. If you’ve done something with your own Yome that you’re proud of, send us a picture. We love seeing where these things end up.
